The Ministry of Science organised today a round table within the public debate on the Draft Guidelines for Smart Specialisation Strategy (2018-2024).

The Director General of the Directorate for Scientific Research Activities, Dr. Darko Petrušić, presented the time-frame for the process of drafting the Smart Specialisation Strategy and the process of identification of priorities.

Participants’ response was satisfactory – the meeting brought together about 30 representatives of the academic, economic and public sectors from several areas of development of Montenegro, identified as potential priority areas in this process – renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, sustainable agriculture and food value chain, new materials and sustainable technologies, sustainable and health tourism and information and communication technologies (ICT), as a horizontal platform.

The implementation of the Smart Specialisation Strategy is of great strategic importance for Montenegro, as it can stimulate public and private investment in research, technological development and innovation. In an active exchange of opinions and the ensuing discussion, the participants have especially focused on potential representative projects within the identified priority sectors.

Previously, the Ministry of Science had announced a public call for participation in the public debate on the Draft Guidelines for Smart Specialisation Strategy (2018-2024), lasting for a period of 20 days, from 16 November to 6 December 2018. Following the receipt of suggestions and comments under the public call, the Ministry of Science will, by the end of the year, submit the Government with the Proposal for Guidelines for Smart Specialisation Strategy for consideration and adoption.
